asked the Minister of Transport Affairs:†

With effect from what date is toll being charged and collected at toll-gates from (a) members of the South African Police Force who in the exercise of their powers or the performance of their duties or functions find it necessary to pass through such toll gates and (b) members of the South African Defence Force while proceeding to or from any place on the service of that Force?

The MINISTER OF TRANSPORT AFFAIRS:
  1. (a) Members of the South African Police who have to use tollroads in the exercise of their powers or the performance of their duties or functions are exempted from the payment of toll on all tollroads subject to the condition that the prescribed credit authorisation form is handed in at the tollgate and that this form is properly completed and signed.
  2. (b) Members of the South African Defence Force who travel in an official South African Defence Force vehicle in the service of that Force are exempted from the payment of toll at the Tsitsikamma, Mariannhill and Kranskop Tollplazas. A credit authorisation form must also be handed in by them. Toll is however collected at the Vaal Tollplaza since 2 July 1988, 1 November 1988 at the Grasmere-, 7 December 1988 at the Mooi-, and 1 August 1988 at the Tugela Tollplazas after discussions between the parties concerned took place.
