Whether there have been any changes in the number of countries with whom South Africa has had diplomatic relations since 1973; if so, (a) what changes, and (b) when, in each case?

Production of video material presenting South Africa in a positive light 960. Mr C J DERBY-LEWIS

asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs:

(1) Whether his Department intends spending any money in the 1988-89 financial year on producing video material for use on overseas television networks with a view to presenting South Africa in a positive light; if not, why not; if so, (a) what is the total estimated amount involved and (b)(i) what amount is estimated will be spent on buying viewing time on such television networks to show this video material, (ii)(aa) on which networks and (bb) in what time-slots will it be shown and (iii) what are the estimated viewership figures for each of these time-slots;
  2. (2) whether his Department has introduced or intends introducing a long-term plan in this regard; if not, why not; if so, over how many years;
  3. (3) whether it is the intention to increase departmental expenditure on the production of such video material; if not, why not; if so, to what extent?

Whether any provision was made in his Department’s budget for the 1987-88 financial year for the production of video material for use on overseas television networks with a view to presenting South Africa’s case abroad; if so,

  1. (a) what was the total amount involved and
  2. (b) (i) what was the total amount spent on buying viewing time on such television networks to show this video material, (ii)(aa) on which networks and (bb) in what time-slots was it or will it be shown and (iii)(aa) what are the estimated viewership figures for each of these time-slots and (bb) in respect of what dates are these estimates furnished?

Whether any of the regulations governing the operation of taxis cover the collection of fares from a taxi operator; if so, what regulations; if not, what procedure is followed to ensure that this sector of the economy makes its due contribution to the Exchequer?
