Promotion of local industry for manufacture of television receiving sets 598. Mr. E. G. MALAN

asked the Minister of Economic Affairs:

  1. (1) Whether he has taken any steps in regard to the promotion of a local industry for the manufacture of television receiving sets; if so, what steps; if not, why not;
  2. (2) whether any provision has been made for expenditure in this connection during the financial year 1971-’72; if so, under what item of his Vote; if not, why not.
 The MINISTER OF ECONOMIC AFFAIRS:
  1. (1) Notices will appear in the Government Gazette shortly in which intending manufacturers of picture tubes and television sets are requested to register with the Department of Industries and to complete a questionnaire.
  2. (2) No expenses are foreseen which cannot be covered out of the Department’s normal provisions.
