  2. (2) whether he intends to take any steps in this regard; if so, (a) what steps and (b) when.

Demolition of dwellings in Evaton township *4. Mrs. H. SUZMAN

asked the Minister of Bantu Administration and Development:

  1. (1) Whether the Sebokeng Management Board recently ordered the demolition of any dwellings in the Evaton township; if so, (a) how many dwellings (i) have been and (ii) are to be demolished, (b) what period of notice was given to the owners and (c) how many persons (i) have been and (ii) will be affected by the demolitions;
  2. (2) whether alternative accommodation was offered to the affected persons; if so, where.
The DEPUTY MINISTER OF BANTU ADMINISTRATION AND EDUCATION:
  1. (1) Yes.
    1. (a)
      1. (i) 408 on 391 sites, the property of the Board.
      2. (ii) 600 structures on 318 sites, with the consent of the owners.

Deposits required from newspapers in terms of Suppression of Communism Act *5. Mr. L. G. MURRAY

asked the Minister of Justice:

  1. (1) Whether deposits have been required from newspapers in terms of section 6bis (1) of the Suppression of Communism Act, 1950; if so, (a) from how many newspapers, (b) what is the total amount and (c) what is the (i) highest and (ii) lowest individual deposit;
  2. (2) whether any deposits have been forfeited to the State; if so, (a) what are the names of the newspapers whose deposits were forfeited and (b) what were the amounts of the forfeitures;
  3. (3) whether any deposits have been repaid; if so, (a) in respect of which newspapers and (b) what amounts were refunded;
  4. (4) (a) how many deposits are at present held, (b) what is the aggregate amount of the deposits and (c) at what rate is the interest calculated for payment to depositors.
The MINISTER OF JUSTICE:
  1. (1) Yes.
    Since the enactment of the provision:
    1. (a) Ten.
    2. (b) R130 000.
    3. (c) (i) R20 000; (ii) R10000.
      No deposits were, however, paid because the applicants did not proceed with the registration of the newspapers.

Tents for servicemen during Republic Festival *6. Mr. H. A. VAN HOOGSTRATEN

asked the Minister of Defence:

  1. (1) (a) Which company has received the contract for providing tents for servicemen during the Republic Festival in Cape Town, (b) who are the directors of the company and (c) what is the value of the contract;
  2. (2) whether tenders were called for; if so, (a) when and (b) how many were received;
  3. (3) whether the lowest tender was accepted; if not, why not.
The MINISTER OF DEFENCE:

(1) to (3) The tents in which members of the South African Defence Force, and that includes national servicemen, taking part in the Republic Festival are accommodated, come from Defence Force stocks which were manufactured over the last 25 years or longer by at least five different contractors. These tents have also been pitched by the Defence Force itself.

asked the Minister of Sport and Recreation:

Whether negotiations are taking place with his Department in regard to interuniversity sport; if so, what is the nature of the negotiations.

Technical Advisory Committee on Television *8. Mr. E. G. MALAN

asked the Minister of National Education:

  1. (1) Whether he requested any persons or bodies to nominate representatives to serve on the Technical Advisory Committee on Television; if so. (a) on what date and (b) who are the persons;
  2. (2) whether any persons have been appointed as members of the Advisory Committee; if so, (a) on what date and (b) who are the persons;
  3. (3) (a) what will be the total number of members of the Committee and (b) who will be the chairman;
  4. (4) when is it expected that the full Committee will be (a) appointed, (b) able to commence its activities and (c) able to submit its report;
  5. (5) whether regulations in regard to the activities and terms of reference of the Committee are to be promulgated; if so,
  6. (6) whether the regulations will appear in the Government Gazette’, if not, why not.

  1. (1) Yes; (a) 29th April, 1971, (b) the bodies referred to in my statement of the 27th April, 1971, have been requested to submit the names of their representatives.

Whether he has received the report of the Group Areas Board, referred to by him on 19th February, 1971, in regard to the unproclaimed area on the False Bay coast; if so, when is a group areas proclamation expected to be issued in respect of the areas adjacent to the Swartklip portion of the coast.

What extent of released land as set aside in terms of the Bantu Trust and Land Act, 1936, is available for purchase by the Bantu Trust in each province.
