asked the Minister of Finance:

Whether rates have been laid down for purchase duties, excise duties, import duties or other duties and taxes in respect of (a) radio and (b) television sets; if so, what rates; if not, when will such rates be laid down.

The MINISTER OF FINANCE:

Yes—in respect of sales duty and customs duty.

  1. (a) Radio sets: Sales duty, 30 per cent ad valorem. Customs duty, see schedule (below).
  2. (b) Television sets: Sales duty, 30 per cent ad valorem. Customs duty, see schedule (below).

No rates have been prescribed in respect of excise duty or other duties and taxes on radio and television sets and no decision with regard to prescribing such duties has been taken.

Urban Bantu councils 591. Mr. T. G. HUGHES

asked the Minister of Bantu Administration and Development:

What urban Bantu councils have been established in terms of the Urban Bantu Councils Act, 1961.

The MINISTER OF BANTU ADMINISTRATION AND DEVELOPMENT:

The following 23 urban Bantu councils have already been established:

  • Cape Province: Grahamstown, Uitenhage.
  • Transvaal: Alberton. Carletonville, Benoni, Boksburg, Ermelo, Johannesburg, Krugersdorp, Nigel, Ogies, Roodepoort. Standerton, Vereeniging, Witbank.
  • Natal: Durban.
  • Orange Free State: Bethlehem, Bloemfontein, Kroonstad, Parys, Odendaalsrus, Virginia, Welkom.
Land in certain districts occupied by White farmers and Bantu persons 594. Mr. W. H. D. DEACON

asked the Minister of Agriculture:

  1. (1) What areas of land in each of the districts of King William’s Town, Peddle, Albany, Komga, Indwe, Alexandria, Humansdorp, Mossel Bay, Caledon and Bredasdorp (a) is owned or occupied by White farmers and (b) is occupied by Bantu under the Bantu Trust and Land Act of 1936;
  2. (2) how much is owed by farmers in each of these districts to (a) the Land Bank and (b) the Department of Agricultural Credit and Land Tenure.
