(a) How many White, Coloured, Indian and Bantu persons, respectively, are employed as postmen in the Durban complex, (b) what is the authorized establishment and (c) how many posts are vacant.

Applications received from holders of charter licences for right to fly to and from Jan Smuts Airport 40. Mr. E. G. MALAN

asked the Minister of Transport:

  1. (1) (a) How many applications from holders of a charter licence for the right to fly to and from Jan Smuts Airport were received since 1st January, 1970, (b) how many of the applications were granted, (c) how many were granted conditionally and (d) what were the conditions in each case;
  2. (2) whether any of the applications were refused; if so, (a) which persons or bodies were involved, (b) on what date was each application refused and (c) what were the reasons for refusal.

asked the Minister of Posts and Telegraphs:

  1. (1) How many applications for telephone services in the Republic were outstanding as at 30th June, 30th September and 31st December, 1970, respectively;
  2. (2) whether any applications were withdrawn after the announcement of increased installation costs; if so, approximately how many.

Committee into control of commissions and credit i.r.o. short-term insurance business 86. Mr. L. E. D. WINCHESTER

asked the Minister of Finance:

(a) What were the names of the members of the committee set up by the Registrar of Insurance to inquire into and report upon the control of commissions and credit in respect of short-term insurance business and (b) what companies were represented by these members.

The MINISTER OF FINANCE:
  1. (a) The Committee has not been appointed by the Registrar but by representatives of short-term insurers representing tariff as well as nontariff companies. The Registrar has been informed on several occasions by members of the industry on matters affecting the basis on which commissions are paid by short-term insurers, and he saw it as his duty to give moral support to an investigation envisaged by the industry in an effort to make more satisfactory arrangements. The Registrar has not been informed of the names of members.
  2. (b) Falls away.
